Like others have said it shreds up the belts like crazy. After about a half hour of use the filter systen does not work anymore, something obviously plugged on the inside somewhere. Now I have to waste my time taking it back tomorrow to get my money back.Wasting my time and my money by all the belts it ruined.I have other Skil brand tools that work great but do not waste your time and money on this one.
I've had the same issue pop up at least once in every project since then. I'd have to say it is a decent machine. I too have had this problem. It got me through the job, but I did lose a few belts to shredding. However, it's a year old and still looks almost brand new. It's truly the main downfall to this sander.well besides the dust port seeming inadequate.
Well, I subtracted one star for the belt issue and another for dust port clogging and lack of features. The thing is.I have to agree with the other reveiws that mention belt shredding. The thing is, sometimes it shreds just enough of the belt to make it work fine from then on.until the belt finally wears on its own(i know, weird). However, the ergonomics are fine, it is very comfortable to hold and seems well constructed after a year's use. It also has plenty of power(it will actually get away from you if you don't have firm grip).I purchased this sander from a Big Box Store about a year ago to help complete a job. Now, to be fair what more would you really need besides MAYBE speed control, but again it is rather simple and lacks any amenities.
I've had no other issues with it so I give three stars.
I bought this to replace an old craftsman. I needed to sand down an old door and started with #50 belts thinking I would go over it again with #`120 later.I went thru the first belt (a #80 I think) that came with the sander in about 20 minutes (It broke at the splice). The first #50 lasted thru the rest of the job. It did start to unravel a bit (strings of belt coming off the edge) but to be fair I was sanding the heads off tiny nails I found out later.I put on a new #50 belt and finished the job with a quick going over and quit while I was ahead. The sander itself stayed cool at the handles and the auto track seems to work flawlessly. It paid for itself with this job so I can't quibble about anything. Now I have to find a box to store it in.
The belt that came with the sander worked good for a long time. Worse than that every 10 secs or so I had to put the belt back. After it lost the roughness I bought 3x18 belts from Walmart. The belt didn's last long at all. It keeps coming off. I would NOT buy this item again.
I had to unclog the filter after sanding approx. This Skill sander replaced a 15 year old Skill sander with the same spec.s. 3 mins. This sander does not have the same power like the older one. The filter box gets clocked to frequent. Over all it does get the job done for the price. I think I paid the same price for the older sander 15 years ago so this is a good value.
